- Building Description:
Built in 1963, 61 Jane Street is a beautiful 19-story red brick postwar co-op situated on a tree-lined cobblestone street in the West Village historic district. Once a bastion of Bohemian America, some former residents of “Greenwich Village” include many of the world’s most famous artists such as Andy Warhol, Walt Whitman, Salvador Dali, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Twain. In addition, famous entertainers including actor, Jason Robards, and musician, Richie Havens, both resided at 61 Jane Street shortly after its construction. The New York Times has claimed that Jane Street has “more published authors per square foot” than any other street in New York City. The prominent street also has an instrumental piece named after it which was written by American Jazz saxophonist, Al Cohn.
